The Estimator bids and wins highly profitable and feasibly constructible projects that have pricing strategies developed to maximize our profits, cash flow and avoid any losses during construction.
The Estimator is responsible for the coordination of bid documents, labor productions, subcontractor and vendor pricing, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, project start-up meetings, owner estimates, subcontractor and vendor requisitions and cost-to-completes.
Responsibilities:
Thoroughly investigates the specifications, scope of work, and drawings to develop accurate preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detailed estimates including quantity takeoffs
Create subcontractor/material supplier bid lists
Prepare bid packages, obtain bids from subcontractors and vendors
Develops pricing strategies.
Attends team kick off and schedule oversight meetings, red team reviews, and/or additional reviews.
Negotiates the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery using the company buyout procedure.
Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of the contract documents and the potential risks for a project. Makes well-supported recommendations on how to mitigate and price risks.
Interfaces extensively with the Contracts department to address any risks or issues with the contract.
Manages the buyout process, writes the requisition, and communicates all required information to the Project Team.
Participate with the operations team during the strategy meetings on the approach to the project or estimate.
Assist in the preparation of preliminary construction schedules and work plans.
Qualifications:
5 years of experience in heavy civil construction with a strong DOT civil background with experience in estimating and/or project operations
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related field preferred
Background in project start-up meetings, sub-contractor and vendor by-outs, owner estimates, sub / vendor requisitions and cost-to-completes
Excellent teamwork, communication and people skills a must.
Has a solid time management system and demonstrates excellent organizational skills.
Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and ERP systems.
Working knowledge of estimating, engineering, cost tracking systems and site surveying
Working knowledge of HCSS highly preferred
Will require travel to jobsites
