- Efficient use of Funding: It's important that the funding in a construction project be used as effectively as possible. This doesn't mean getting the cheapest materials because you can have problems with the building later on. But it does mean that you want to work out a budget and make sure that you can get all the equipment and materials that you require for a given job. This usually entails a lot of shopping around to make sure that you get the best deal without sacrificing quality.
- Staying within the scope of the Job: The actual details of a construction job need to be established early on, and these usually include what you will and won't do. The scope can be changed later on but if that happens then the actual pricing will need to be discussed. In that case, someone may have to speak to the bank because a lot of the time it's the bank that is funding the project.
- Schedule: Most jobs need to be completed within a certain period of time. This is especially true if a bank is funding the project. If there is a bank loan involved then a certain percentage of the project needs to be completed before the bank will issue a check. If the project is not completed at the right time then the construction crew might not get paid for that week.
- Work Distribution: You'll have to assign the right jobs to the right people, this is very important, especially in construction. You'll need to make sure that the guy who is good with cutting is on the saw, and the one who is good with roofing is on the roof. The roofing should probably be a group effort anyway.
It may take a bit of time to climb to the top, but it'll be worth it when you finally make it, because you'll have a great salary, and a job that is in demand every day of the year.
