Boral Ltd. expands its presence in the U.S.
Boral Ltd. is set to become the second-largest concrete maker in Oklahoma City after increasing its U.S. presence by acquiring the assets of two firms in Oklahoma for $80 million. Boral has purchased the concrete-and-sand business Schwarz Readymix and the quarry assets of Davis Arbuckle Materials. The acquisition includes 18 concrete batching plants, more than 160 trucks and tanks, five sand deposits, and a limestone quarry in Davis, OK. The deal will bolster the concrete maker's presence in the country, and the combined operations will now have an annual production of approximately 750,000 cubic yards of ready-mixed concrete and 1.6 million tons of sand and aggregates.
Northrop Grumman receives $285.5 million for NSC construction contract
A $285.5 million contract has been awarded to Northrop Grumman Corporation for construction of the third National Security Cutter (NSC), the newest multi-mission cutter in the U.S. Coast Guard fleet. The contract is funded under the Integrated Deepwater System program. The NSC will have a 4,300-ton displacement at full load and will be 418 feet long. It will be powered by a combined diesel-and-gas turbine power-propulsion plant. Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global-defense and technology company with a workforce of 120,000 employees. It provides innovative systems, products, and solutions to government and commercial clients worldwide.
Leopardo Construction to build Greenbuild Chicago 2007 Legacy Project
U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Chicago chapter and the city of Chicago have chosen Leopardo Construction as the general contractor for the Greenbuild Chicago 2007 Legacy Project. This year’s Legacy Project is the renovation and expansion of the Chicago Center for Green Technology. George Tuhowski III, general superintendent of Leopardo and chair of its Green TQM committee, expressed eagerness to build a LEED Platinum project and said the firm is striving to “promote the benefits of green building” with its employees, partners, and clients.
